The former superintendent pharmacist of an online pharmacy headquartered in Leicester has received a warning from the General Pharmaceutical Council after he failed to insure the pharmacy’s indemnity insurance was in place.
Vishal Mahendrakumar Patel received the warning from the GPhC’s investigating committee (IC) over gaps in his oversight of Zohan Health’s operations and its compliance with legal standards while he held the position of superintendent pharmacist between November 1, 2022 and February 28, 2025.
“This included the operational oversight to ensure that the pharmacy had the required indemnity insurance for the period between 1 December 2023 and 3 March 2025 and complied with legislation regarding Responsible Pharmacist logs,” the IC found.
It said: “Mr Patel has failed to assess the operational risks and put the necessary safeguards in place to ensure that indemnity insurance was in place, and that RP Logs were kept up to date.
“He has failed as the SI to properly discharge his responsibilities, and this is something that has the potential to undermine public confidence in the profession.”
Mr Patel was found to have breached professional standards relating to demonstrating leadership and the use of professional judgment.
“Mr Patel is hereby warned that he should ensure that he demonstrates leadership and ensure that procedures are in place for the safety of patients and the public,” said the IC.
